The Coimbatore City Police on Tuesday detained around 100 persons attached to different right-wing organisations as a preventive measure in the wake of the recent developments at Thiruparankundram in Madurai.

The police said that members of the Hindu Munnani, Vishva Hindu Parishad and Hanuman Sena were detained in Coimbatore, to prevent them from staging protests and taking out padayatra to Thiruparankundram.

“Coimbatore City Police have kept me under house confinement for proceeding & voicing out against the atrocities happening in Thiruparankundram temple hill, Madurai, Tamil Nadu,” posted BJP State General Secretary A.P. Muruganandam on X. The police denied his claim and stated that personnel merely visited him at his residence.
