Long distance running races held

The ninth edition of Karam Yokathon, a long distance running race, was conducted by YOKE Society, Kodaganallur, recently.

Nearly 1,000 runners participated in 5 km, 10 km and 21 km races for different age groups and the winners were honoured with 80 cash prizes worth ₹1.90 lakh and medals. The medals were given to 21 Km finishers and certificates to all participants.

The races were flagged off by Sonamuthu, Inspector of Police, Suththamalli, Sriram Balasubramanyam, former Managing Director of State Bank of India and Rajagopal Balasubramanyam, Managing Director of DSM International, from the sponsor families, whose ancestors were from Kodaganallur and Gopalasamudram.

Vinoth Kumar from Madurai, who finished the 21 km with an impressive timing of 1 hour 12 minutes, came first.

Managing Director, Tamilnad Mercantile Bank, Thoothukudi Salee S. Nair gave away the prizes.

The event was also marked by a cultural programme carrying across the message of environmental protection on World Wetlands Day through folk songs and dance.
