The police arrested the cadre of Hindu Munnani and other Hindu organisations when they tried to proceed to Madurai to participate in the demonstration to be organised at Tirupparankundram on Tuesday.

The police detained the office-bearers of the Hindu Munnani when they tried to proceed to Madurai. They were released in the evening.

Former Mayor Bhuvaneshwari, who went to the Tirunelveli railway junction with ‘kaavadi’ was intercepted by the police there. Even though she told the police that she was on her way to Tiruchendur to offer special prayers, Ms. Bhuvaneshwari was whisked away to a private marriage hall and released in the evening.

Similar arrests were made in Thoothukudi and Kanniyakumari districts also.
