Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has set a target of constructing 4,176 affordable homes under the second phase of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). These homes will be built in different parts of the city, including Balewadi, Dhanori, Kondhwa, Hadapsar, and Vadgaon Khurd. The project aims to provide housing for economically weaker sections (EWS).

According to PMC Chief Engineer Prashant Waghmare, 852 applications have already been received under PMAY. The first phase of the scheme in Pune saw the construction of 2,658 homes. These homes were developed across four projects in Hadapsar, Kharadi, and Vadgaon. The homes were priced between ₹7.5 lakh and ₹8 lakh. They were inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The second phase will provide housing under four categories: individual homes, partnership-based affordable homes, rental housing, and interest subsidy schemes. The Maharashtra government issued directives to local bodies to develop these homes under the ‘Housing for All’ initiative.

PMC is working to overcome challenges faced in earlier projects, such as the lack of proper roads. The homes will be allocated to sanitation workers and people whose income is less than ₹6 lakh.
