Closure on Hwy. 10 as snow system causes major problems for MN drivers
Accumulating snow overnight is causing major issues on the roads in Minnesota Monday morning, with one crash closing eastbound Highway 10 in Sherburne County.
Authoritie were called 137th Street and 165th Avenue Southeast near Salida, southeast of Becker, with the eastbound highway closed to all except emergency vehicles for several hours.
The road has since reopened, with the Minnesota State Patrol saying the crash saw an eastbound Toyota Highlander collided with a westbound Chevy Trailblazer in snowy and icy conditions.
Both drivers suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
It comes after a difficult start to Monday on the roads after a winter system dropped 3-5 inches of snow in parts of the state, with a swath of west-central and central Minnesota getting the largest amounts.
The Twin Cities has seen a lighter amount, but it was more than enough to cause problems for drivers during the morning commute, with dozens of crashes, spinouts, and vehicles off the road reported.
The Minnesota State Patrol has confirmed that there has been one fatal crash in Minnesota on Monday morning, which is believed to have happened on I-494 in Eden Prairie.
Although it's not snow-related, a major crash has closed I-90 westbound in Winona County Monday morning. We're awaiting more details on this incident.
The state patrol says that as of 8 a.m. it had received 83 reports of property damage crashes, four with injuries, one fatality, 21 vehicles off the road, 5 spinouts, and one jackknifed semi.
Monday's snow is expected to be followed by further lighter snow on Wednesday, with a potentially larger system in the forecast for the weekend.
