Kottaiyur school girl wins prizes

M.Lena of Class IX of Chidambaram Chettiar Girls School, Kottaiyur, bagged prizes in classical and folk songs in s State-level cultural competitions and was awarded the title, ‘Kalai Arasi.’ It was made possible by the valuable guidance of Headmistress PA.Meenal and music mentor S.Noorjahan. Besides, S.Tahzeen of Class XI had scored 100/100 in Tamil Thiranari Thervu and brought laurels to Sivaganga district.

BVB celebrates Annual Day

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s Gandhi Vidyashram, Kodaikanal, celebrated its 41st Annual Day recently. Rajkumar Raman, vice-president of The Carlton was the chief guest. He presented awards to top-performing students and in his address motivated the students to pursue their passions and emphasised the importance of focus and perseverance in achieving their goals. The students presented a cultural programme that included classical and semi-classical dances, English and Tamil skits, and gymnastics.

A one-week faculty development programme titled Instructional Design and Delivery Systems was jointly organised by P.S.R. Engineering College, Sevalpatti, Sivakasi, and National Institute of Technical Teacher Training and Research, Chennai. The programme was aimed at improving the teaching skills and familiarise faculty members with modern tools and techniques.K. Valarmathi, Hod - ECE, introduced the resource persons - S. Renugadevi and P. Mallika, Professors from NITTTR. The training included practical sessions. Over 60 faculty members participated in the training programme.

Standard Fireworks Rajaratnam College for Women (SFRC), Sivakasi, hosted SFRC Expo 2025 for school students on January 29 and 30. As many as 3,454 students from 28 schools in and around Sivakasi, accompanied by 145 teachers, participated in the event which offered career guidance for students of grades 8th to 12th. A team of around 220 college volunteers and 740 presenters interacted with the school students, addressing their questions and clarifying doubts.

SMART 1.0 conducted

A two-conference on SMART 1.0, titled ‘Sustainability of management for academic research and technology’ (hybrid mode) was organised by the Department of Business Administration of Ayya Nadar Janaki Ammal College, Sivakasi, recently. SMART 1.0 was inaugurated by chief guest V. Ramanujam of Bharathiar University, Coimbatore. The resource persons were A.M. Mohamed Sindhasha, former Principal of Jamal Mohamed College, Tiruchi; P. S. Joan Kingsly of Presidency University, Bengaluru, and P. Soundara Pandiyan of B.S. Abdur Rahman Crescent Institute of Science and Technology. A total of 215 research papers were presented in hybrid mode by staff and students representing 36 colleges and universities. The valedictory address was delivered by M. Selvam, retired senior professor from Bharathidasan University.

FDP on AI tools

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering of Ramco Institute of Technology, Rajapalayam,organised a six-day faculty development programme (FDP) on ‘Innovative AI tools for research excellence’ from January 27. The sessions covered AI-driven research tools and methodologies, focusing on areas like AI for statistical analysis and visualisation, research paper writing, programming assistance, patent development, reference management with Mendeley, Generative AI in research, AI-powered academic tools, and AI-driven writing optimisation.

The Library and Information Service Club of Sri Kaliswari College, Sivakasi, organised a programme to create an awareness of the importance of e-resources in today’s education for Part V students on January 28. The resource person, S. Sridhar, focused on how to access electronic resources, searching for books, journals, research through OPAC [online public access catalogue] and student entrance. As many as 35 students took part in the programme.
