Around 40 lakh households in the State have been provided drinking water through government schemes since the second Left Democratic Front (LDF) government came to power, Water Resources Minister Roshy Augustine has said.
He was inaugurating the newly constructed 12-lakh-litre overhead water tank and a 3-lakh-litre underground water tank, built at a cost of ₹6.22 crore, at Kattoor in Mararikulam South grama panchayat in Alappuzha on Monday. Mr. Augustine also launched the work to lay a 108 km drinking water distribution pipeline network.
The Minister said the government would provide drinking water to another 31 lakh families in the next one and a half years.
The Uralungal Labour Contract Cooperative Society has been entrusted with laying the pipeline network, which is funded under the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board.
P.P. Chitharanjan, MLA presided. Alappuzha District Panchayat president K.G. Rajeshwari, District Collector Alex Varghese and others attended.
