Mogera community seeks Group 2 reservation

Mangaluru: Karnataka Rajya Mogera Sangha has appealed to Justice HN Nagamohan Das Committee to consider the Mogera community under Group 2, instead of Group 4, while deciding internal reservation for scheduled caste (SC) communities.
Sangha president Nandaraj Sankesh told reporters that a memorandum was submitted to Justice Nagamohan Das, who heads the commission of inquiry to recommend to the govt on the internal reservation for the SC communities.
"We have appealed to the committee to consider the Mogera community, which is indigenous to undivided Dakshina Kannada, under Group 2. While the castes under Group 4 are likely to get only 1% internal reservation, for Group 2, it will be 5.5%. As per the 2011 Census, the population of the Mogera community was 82,807 and the number is expected to have crossed 1.5 lakh. Considering Mogera under Group 2 will help the community members avail reservation benefits. This would help the community to develop as per the reservation ensured under the Constitution," he added.
