The High Grounds police on Wednesday registered an FIR against a police constable for allegedly harassing his newly-married wife for dowry.
Based on complaint filed by Rekha, the police charged Manoj S. under the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961, and Sections 115 and 85 of BNS for further investigation.
According to the complaint, the victim met Manoj at the Seshadripuram police station where he was working in 2024. She had gone to get some work done related to the accidental death of her first husband. Manoj took her number and started chatting with her after which he proposed to marry her. She had two children from her first marriage.
The duo got married in August last year in a temple at Nanjangud and got the marriage registered at the Seshadripuram Sub-Registrar’s office.
In the complaint, Rekha alleged that Suresh’s family started to harass her following which the couple moved to the police quarters in Vasanthnagar. She alleged that after a few months, Manoj started behaving indifferently and would fight with her over trivial issues. She alleged in the complaint that Manoj was also having extra marital affairs and when she objected to this, he started abusing her physically and verbally and started demanding dowry. The victim then approached the police and filed a complaint.
