Elderly woman robbed of gold jewellery in Erode

Published - February 02, 2025 05:22 pm IST - ERODE

A 70-year-old woman, who was alone at home, was robbed of 17 sovereigns of gold jewellery and ₹50,000 at Kallukadaimedu on Saturday night.

The police said that Savithri, who lost her husband, was residing at Annamalai Pillai Street for 20 years. Two unidentified men, both around 30 years old, barged into her house and threatened her at knife-point. Frightened, she handed over the bureau key, after which they stole the jewellery and cash.

After they left, she raised an alarm, and neighbours alerted the Erode South police station. The police conducted an inquiry and said that the robbers had taken advantage of the elderly woman living alone to commit the crime.

A case has been registered, and police are reviewing the CCTV footage from the area.
