Varanasi: A 6-year-old child was killed while six other pilgrims suffered grave injuries when their SUV collided with a van in the Jungiganj area of Bhadohi district as they were returning home to Prayagraj after attending the Maha Kumbh on Saturday late night. Additionally, a bus of Maha Kumbh pilgrims from Chhattisgarh, heading to Varanasi from Ayodhya, collided with a stationary truck in Jaunpur, resulting in injuries to 15 of them.
In the first incident, an SUV with Maha Kumbh pilgrims on board was heading to Bihar from Prayagraj on Sunday.
While passing through the Jangiganj market, it collided with a pickup van. In this accident, six persons were injured while a child died. The injured were rushed to the district hospital, and the body was sent for postmortem, said Bhadohi ASP Tejveer Singh. He added that the road was cleared for smooth vehicular movement.
During the initial police investigation, it came to light that a group of pilgrims from Ramgarh Kaimur Bhabua in Bihar went to Prayagraj for the Maha Kumbh bath three days ago. They were returning home when their SUV met with the accident. The victims, Alok Kumar (35) and his wife Sandhya Singh (30) suffered serious injuries, while their son Sushant alias Chhotu (6) died. Other pilgrims on board, including Arvind Gupta (31), his wife Sunita Kumari (28), and two others, suffered minor injuries. Doctors at Bhadohi hospital referred Alok and Sandhya to the trauma center of BHU in Varanasi. The pick-up driver, Babbu Teli (24), son of Birju of Vindhyachal, also suffered injuries.
In Jaunpur, a bus with 52 pilgrims from Chhattisgarh, who left Prayagraj on Jan 27 and later offered prayers in Ayodhya, was heading to Varanasi, when it collided with a stationary truck. About 15 pilgrims suffered minor injuries in this incident. They were rushed to Naupedwa CHC.
