NIA files chargesheet against Aman Sahu’s brother in Latehar coal mine terror attack
Ranchi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) filed a chargesheet against Akash Kumar, brother of gangster Aman Sahu, for his alleged involvement in the 2020 Tetariyakhand coal mine attack in Latehar on December 2020, the central investigative agency said on Saturday.
This is the fifth chargesheet filed in the case (RC-01/2021/NIA/RNC), bringing the total number of accused to 26.The charges were filed under sections 120B read with 384 of IPC and various sections of the UA(P) Act, the NIA added.
Probe by the NIA, which took over the investigation in March 2021, revealed that the December 2020 attack was orchestrated by the Sujit Sinha and Aman Sahu gangs to extort money and disrupt mining operations. Akash, at present imprisoned in multiple criminal cases, allegedly served as the gang's financial operator, managing extortion money through various channels and laundering funds through shell companies. He provided shelter to gang members and invested criminal proceeds in various assets belonging to Aman Sahu and his associates, the sleuths stated.
The Aman Sahu gang has been implicated in subversive activities, including bombings, shootings, and arson attacks on police and jail authorities, across Jharkhand. The group is known for disrupting govt operations and extorting money from businessmen and contractors. Investigators have also uncovered the gang's connections with splinter extremist organisations and other criminal groups outside Jharkhand, indicating a broader network aimed at furthering their violent agenda.
