Chandigarh: Newly elected Chandigarh mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla, on her first day in office, visited the Daddumajra-based dumping ground and legacy mining site to assess the progress of waste management and the completion of the bio-mining project.
The mayor, accompanied by municipal commissioner Amit Kumar and other officers concerned, assessed the current status of the waste management and bio-mining project. During the visit, the municipal commissioner comprehensively briefed the mayor on the present condition of the dump site.
The commissioner elaborated on the segregation process of wet and dry waste, explaining how different types of waste are handled to minimise the hazardous impact and preserve the environment. Special attention was given to horticulture waste management.
The commissioner also highlighted the ongoing efforts to ensure daily waste processing at the site. A key focus of the discussion was the initiative to produce bio-soil from organic waste, which can be utilised for agricultural and landscaping purposes.
The mayor encouraged all municipal officers to work diligently towards this goal and extended best wishes to the entire team of the MC. The officers apprised the mayor that the entire dumping ground would be cleaned before Aug this year.
