The Chikkaballapura rural police arrested a petrol bunk attendant and a cab driver for allegedly murdering their friend over a drunken brawl on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Maruthesh, who worked as a plumber. According to the police, the victim’s family found his body at a residential layout on Friday. They lodged a complaint based on which the police swung into action and tracked down the accused identified as Vinod, 22, a petrol bunk attendant, and Abhishek, 19, a cab driver within six hours of the incident being reported.
Investigations revealed that three of them were drinking partners. On Thursday while buying the bottles, an argument ensued over payment. .
The argument continued even after they reached their usual drinking spot at the layout. In the melee, Vinod and Abhishek allegedly assaulted Maruthesh with beer bottles and attacked him with a broken bottle, killing him on the spot.
The duo fled the spot immediately.
The police found the beer bottles at the spot, verified with wine shops in and around the area, and analysed the CCTV footage to identify the accused. The duo was charged with murder and remanded to judicial custody.
