5 injured in wild boar attack in Ganjam
Berhampur: Five persons, including two women, sustained injuries after a wild boar attacked them at Patapur in Ganjam district on Saturday. One of the women, who was critically injured, was referred to MKCG Medical College and Hospital here.
The wild boar had strayed into the village and attacked two individuals, including a woman, while they were going to their farmland in the morning.When the villagers chased the animal, it fell into a well near a temple. After being rescued, it allegedly attacked three others when they were returning from the river, sources said.
"The animal, which fell into a well after the villagers chased it, was rescued by the fire service and forest personnel. After being rescued, the animal fled from the spot," said Dibyaraj Sahu, forest range officer, Digapahandi.
He said a compensation would be provided to the injured people after an inquiry as per govt provision. "We have asked them to apply for compensation through the proper channel," he said. Forest officials are keeping a watch on the animal.
Villagers claimed the population of wild boars in the area has increased and they are destroying standing crops. "We are living in fear as a number of wild boars are roaming on the outskirts of the village," said S N Padhy, a villager. Villagers urged forest officials to drive away the animals to protect them and their standing crops.
