Biker’s death: T.N. driver sentenced to six months

The 3rd Judicial Magistrate First Class, Mangaluru, E.S. Suresha, has sentenced Iyyappan D., 32, of Pudukottai in Tamil Nadu, to six months of imprisonment and fine of ₹7,500, on finding him guilty of causing death of motorcyclist Karthik Mallya in February 2020.

As per the chargesheet, Iyyappan drove bullet tanker in a rash and negligent manner from Paduva towards Nantoor junction, in Mangaluru, on February 13, 2020. The tanker ran over the motorcyclist Karthik Mallya, who was moving ahead in the same direction, which resulted in his death.

In the judgement dated January 31, the Magistrate further asked Iyyappan to pay fine of ₹1000 each for offences under Section 279 (rash and negligent driving) of Indian Penal Code and Section 184 of Motor Vehicles Act 1988.
