Mumbai: The process of sliding the 550 metric tonne girder of the Carnac Bridge on the northern side is complete. The sliding of the girder on the northern side was carried out between 1.30 and 4 am on Friday. Earlier, the sliding process was interrupted due to some technical difficulties on Jan 26, and sliding of the girder for about 12 meters remained incomplete. Coordination between the BMC and the Central Railway administration helped overcome the technical difficulties, and the sliding of the girder was completed. According to a BMC release, the sliding of the girder was technically challenging, and guidance from RITES was sought. Additionally, Central Railway assisted by providing special blocks for completing the work. The launch of the girder and completion of allied works now remain to be completed. The BMC aims to open the bridge to traffic by June 2025.
