Hyderabad: Cyberabad police is set to launch a dedicated police station for the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) that will operate from within the airport premises — 24x7. The station will cater to the needs of flyers, airlines' employees and others using the airport apart from quickly dealing with nuisance cases.
Currently, all issues of the airport are reported to the RGI airport police station, about seven km from the facility.
"This is being done in view of increasing flow of flyers and those accompanying them at the airport which has led to a rise in vehicular traffic as well," said an official of Cyberabad police adding that the proposal for the new police station has been forwarded to the state govt for the final approval. Once it comes through, the present RGI airport police station will be renamed Shamshabad town police station, the official added .
Until then, the Cyberabad cops will operate a 24x7 police outpost from the arrivals arena of RGIA. This outpost, expected to be operational soon, will be responsible for the entire airport area spread over 5,000 acres. "Once the outpost is operational, people can lodge their complaints there. The same will be forwarded to the RGI airport police station, where the FIR will be registered. People can collect the FIR or any police-related documents from the outpost itself," said the official. "Except for registering FIRs and dealing with legal aspects, the outpost will carry out all duties of a police station," the official added.
At present the RGIA only has a police help desk in place to assist flyers with minor inconveniences.
