Kanpur: A comprehensive anti-encroachment operation by Kanpur Municipal Corporation (KMC) removed 346 temporary and 17 permanent kiosks, along the stretch from Idgah Tiraha to Baqarganj crossing on Saturday.
The anti-encroachment squad, spearheaded by Mayor Pramila Pandey and Municipal Commissioner Sudheer Kumar, confiscated five trucks containing goods belonging to encroachers.
Mayor highlighted that encroachers had occupied the 80-feet-wide road, limiting it to less than half its original width. Additionally, permanent shops constructed atop drains had stopped routine drainage maintenance.
During the area inspection, the Mayor discovered a former corporator had made tents in a public park without requisite KMC authorisation. Officials were instructed to levy penalties accordingly.
The Mayor issued caution to encroachers, emphasising that subsequent encroachments would face legal consequences, whilst affirming the continuation of the city-wide anti-encroachment initiative. Subsequently, the Mayor participated in a ‘Mayor at Your Ward' programme camp on Bari Bithor road. Of the 38 complaints received, 14 were resolved immediately. tnn
