Kanpur: Preparations for expanding passenger services from Motijheel to Kanpur Central under Kanpur Metro's Corridor-1 (IIT to Naubasta) are progressing swiftly. The installation of ticket vending machines (TVMs) has now been completed. This was done after the successful setup of automatic fare collection (AFC) gates at all five underground stations along this stretch— Chunniganj, Naveen Market, Bada Chauraha, Nayaganj, and Kanpur Central.
A total of 40 ticket vending machines have been installed across these stations.Sushil Kumar, managing director of Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (UPMRC), visited the under-construction stations of corridor-1 during his arrival in Kanpur on Saturday, where he reviewed the progress of ongoing works across various departments.
Kanpur Metro has installed TVMs at new stations ahead of the expansion of passenger services, providing a convenient alternative to the ticket counter. Passengers can select their destination station on the machine and deposit the corresponding fare. Once a note is inserted, the machine automatically accepts it and issues a ticket along with any necessary change. The ticket, featuring a QR code, can then be scanned at the AFC gate to enter the station. Additionally, passengers can use TVMs to recharge their NCMC Go Smart cards. Each station has been equipped with 8 TVMs.
The installation of AFC gates has also been completed at all five stations between Chunniganj and Kanpur Central. After being set up at Chunniganj, Naveen Market, Bada Chauraha, and Kanpur Central, AFC gates have also been installed at Nayaganj station. These gates are used for ticket verification, allowing passengers to scan the QR code on their ticket to enter and exit the paid areas of the station. In total, 59 AFC gates have been installed across this stretch from Chunniganj to Kanpur Central.
Sushil Kumar visited the under-construction stations of Kanpur Metro. He was accompanied by senior officials from various departments. The visit began at Kanpur Central station and included visits to several other construction sites along the route.
He further highlighted the rapid pace of work on both corridors of the Metro network.
