The new terminal at Pune Airport was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in March 2024. It spans 22,000 square meters and has the capacity to handle 7 million passengers annually.
DigiYatra, a facial recognition-based entry system, was already available at the old terminal, but its usage fluctuated last year. In January 2023, 1.73 lakh passengers used the facility, the highest since its launch. However, the numbers later dropped to 1.36 lakh in May.
Meanwhile, Pune Airport has witnessed a sharp rise in passenger traffic. The airport crossed the 1 crore passenger mark in 2024, recording an 8% growth compared to 2023. December saw the highest-ever passenger volume recorded at the airport.
With the introduction of DigiYatra at the new terminal, authorities expect faster processing and reduced congestion, making travel more convenient for passengers.
