Confusion over Saraswati Puja date at Guwahati schools
Guwahati: Considerable confusion prevails over the date of Saraswati Puja in schools in Assam, as education authorities in Guwahati have granted autonomy to schools to celebrate the puja on Sunday or Monday.
According to astrologers, the Vasant Panchami tithi commences on Sunday noon and concludes on Monday morning.
"Some schools may observe the rituals on Sunday, while others on Monday. However, we shall not issue any directive in this regard," Kamrup (Metro) district inspector of schools Dipika Choudhury said. She added that since the puja rituals are conducted as per panjika, the education authorities shall not intervene.
"Respective school managements will determine when they shall organise the puja. We received no such directive from the state education department," Choudhury elaborated. Saraswati Puja is not listed as a holiday in state govt's catalogue of holidays.
"The influence is more pronounced on that day of the tithi when the sun rises. Accordingly, the impact of Vasant Panchami will be more substantial on Feb 3," said Kandarpa Sarma, a priest in Guwahati.
Most schools in and around Guwahati city shall observe Saraswati Puja on Monday.
