Kallakurichi Collector M.S. Prasanth has directed the officials of police and transport departments to conduct joint inspection at accident spots on highways where accidents were reported.

Chairing a road safety meeting with officials of various line departments at the Collectorate here on Thursday, Mr. Prasanth said only when officials carried out joint inspections could they identify factors that caused fatalities and subsequently take remedial steps to prevent recurrence.

The meeting also discussed installation of road safety measures, including traffic calming, markings, and signages, removal of encroachments on highways, erection of high mast lamps and barricades at accident-prone areas, and strategies to reduce congestion and enhance road safety.

Mr. Prasanth also directed officials to take steps on a war-footing to ease traffic congestion on arterial roads and ensure that residents adhered to road safety rules.
