A day after the stormy budget session of the Greater Hyderabad municipal council, corporators representing the Bharat Rashtra Samithi conducted a silent protest in front of the Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi’s chamber, and gave a representation to the GHMC Commissioner K. Ilambarithi about various alleged violations in the conduct of the council meeting.
In the letter, they alleged that there were discrepancies in the revised budget estimates, and that the mayor refused to allow proper discussion about the same.
“The mayor systematically denied microphone access to BRS corporators attempting to raise objections about the revised budget, and when they went up to the podium to protest, the woman corporators were met with aggressive behaviour by the Congress corporators,” the letter claimed levelling various other allegations about silencing of opposition.
They requested the commissioner, among other requests, to initiate immediate enquiry into the incidents and review the legitimacy of the budget approval process.
Following the protests, Congress corporators met the mayor and discussed the allegations and what happened at the council meeting.
Speaking to media, they alleged that BRS corporators threatened them, and challenged the latter to show any instances of misbehaviour against women by the Congress corporators. Corporator Baba Fasiuddin claimed that he was attacked and injured by BRS woman corporators and he had to get treatment at Osmania General Hospital. He demanded that a police enquiry be conducted into the attack.
