Sasaram: A total of seven people were arrested in connection with a violent clash in Nathopur under Kudra police station in Kaimur district on Thursday that rendered Congress MP Manoj Ram and six others injured, superintendent of police (SP) Hari Mohan Shukla said on Friday.
Efforts are going on to apprehend the remaining accused, he added.
Two FIRs were filed following the violent clash — one by the Sasaram MP's brother Maritunajay Bharati against 14 named and 25 unidentified people, while another was lodged by retired DSP Akhileshwar Chaubey against three named individuals, including Ram and his brother, and 25 others.
The SP said that video footage of the incident is being scanned, and further action will be taken after proper verification. "Seven people, including the MP and retired DSP, sustained injuries during the clash and were taken to hospital. The situation in the village is now under control," he said, even as police intensified security measures in the area to prevent further unrest.
The SP added tensions escalated in the village after the MP and his brother purchased agricultural land for the expansion of their school. "Additionally, they began constructing a commercial complex on the land, despite its legal status not being converted for such use," the SP said.
Sources said that the retired DSP was also referred to a higher centre for better treatment as he too received head injury like the MP.
