Sanjay Dutt and Salman Khan's collaborations in films like Saajan and Yeh Hai Jalwa were widely loved. However, there was one more film in which the two were supposed to star together.

In the 90s, multi-star cast films were all the rage. The idea of bringing together several big names for a film often led to massive box-office success. Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt were two of the massive actors of that era, frequently pairing up on screen and winning over audiences with their characters. Their collaborations in films like Saajan, Chal Mere Bhai, Yeh Hai Jalwa, Son Of Sardaar and Ready were widely loved. However, there was one more film in which the two were supposed to star together – Dus.

Dus, an action-packed drama directed by Mukul Anand, was a highly anticipated film that also featured Shilpa Shetty and Raveena Tandon in crucial roles. The film was about 40% completed when tragedy struck. In 1997, while the film was still in production, director Mukul Anand suddenly passed away while shooting for the film in Utah. This heartbreaking event halted the completion of the film, and Dus could not be finished or released to theatres.

Despite the setback, there was one significant piece from the film that lived on – a song that became iconic. The song ‘Gaur Se Duniya Waalon’ from Dus was released separately and gained immense popularity, becoming one of the most beloved patriotic songs in Bollywood. Even years later, it is frequently played during national events and patriotic days.

In 2005, a film titled Dus was released. Directed by Anubhav Sinha, this new Dus was an action thriller featuring Sanjay Dutt, Sunny Deol, Sunil Shetty, Abhishek Bachchan, Zayed Khan, Shilpa Shetty, and others. However, Salman Khan was not part of this film. This version of Dus was a tribute to Mukul Anand, whose original 1997 film never saw the light of day. The 2005 film, while having a different storyline, went on to become a hit, earning the title of the 10th highest-grossing film of the year.

Mukul S. Anand was the nephew of film scriptwriter Inder Raj Anand and cousin of actor Tinnu Anand. Mukul Anand has directed films like Insaaf, Maha-Sangram, Agneepath, Hum, Khuda Gawah and Trimurti. Mukul Anand died of a heart attack at the age of 45 on 7 September 1997.
