The Tamizhaga Nadhigal Innaippu Vivasayigal Sangam staged protest demonstration here over a raft of demands on Thursday.
The protesters demanded a write-off of outstanding farm loans and a guaranteed pension for farmers, as well as minimum support price for crops and implementation of M.S. Swaminathan Committee recommendations in the determination of support prices for farmers. They called for calculating the minimum support price taking into account the cost of production of the crop.
Among the various demands included their demand for revocation of the Electricity Amendment Act, 2020. The protesters also demanded that the government issue a pension of ₹10,000 for farmers.
The farmers’ association also called for the setting up of a National Board for produce such as chillies and turmeric. On the rural employment guarantee scheme, the farmers association called for an increase in the wage days under the MNREGS to 200 days and a daily wage of ₹700.
The protesters also called for the production of the community commons including land, forest and water bodies. The protesters also called for stringent action against pesticide and fertilizer companies for poor quality of raw materials.
