Kerala is charting out a comprehensive plan to improve the activities of traditional industries and envisaging marketing strategies, Industries Minister P Rajeeve has said.

The textile and handloom sectors have great potential to attract investments in the ensuing Invest Kerala Global Summit (IKGS 2025), scheduled on February 21 and 22. These sectors need to come up with innovative and quality products to explore new markets, he said.

Speaking at a Textile Conclave organised by the Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation, the Minister emphasised the need for leveraging better marketing possibilities and strategies. The textile sector has contributed significantly to exports, and there is a need to look for what can be done to achieve success, he said while calling for a constructive change.

The government will take necessary steps to ramp up the traditional industry sectors addressing their challenges, he added.

Sector-specific conclaves

The event is part of a series of sector-specific conclaves planned ahead of IKGS 2025.

Later, the Minister interacted with entrepreneurs and manufacturers from the textile and handloom sectors on the occasion.

Noting that the handloom sector faces issues like quality, adulteration and marketing, APM Mohammed Hanish, Principal Secretary (Industries) said societies and cooperatives must look for diversification for sustainable growth. He also reminded them of the importance of embracing professionalism in their activities.

S Harikishore, Managing Director, KSIDC, said IKGS 2025 will set a platform for manufacturers and entrepreneurs of handloom and textile sectors to showcase their potential and build collaborations.
