Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy on Thursday reviewed the progress of various projects of NLC India Limited (NLCIL) at a meeting in Chennai.
Vismita Tej, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Coal and Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, NLCIL and functional directors of the company were present.
During the meeting, Mr. Reddy lauded NLCIL as one of the best performing public sector companies in the country and said that it had diversified into renewable energy capacity addition on a large scale in the States of Rajasthan, Assam, Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Mr. Reddy also called upon NLCIL to explore avenues to boost tourism and directed the company to explore possibilities for implementation of enhanced Accident Insurance Cover scheme for the workers and employees, in a period of two months. The Coal Ministry will extend its fullest support to the company, he said.
The Coal Minister also virtually inaugurated ‘Parampariyam’, a museum tracing the company’s history from the discovery of peat in 1828, to the formation of NLCIL in 1956, and its remarkable growth over the decades. The museum, located in Neyveli Township, was created by transforming the erstwhile Doordarshan Kendra building, that remained unused for years.
Mr. Reddy also inaugurated ‘NLCIL Wings’, a new mobile application and an updated version of NLCIL website. Mr. Motupalli said the comprehensive review covered NLCIL’s projects and future plans.
