Ara: Showing extraordinary courage, a govt schoolteacher, Yogendra Kumar (40), who was shot at by two unidentified criminals and was profusely bleeding, reached the police station and got recorded his statement.
Police said Yogendra was shot at while he was returning to his home after attending the Republic Day function at his Chamarpur upgraded govt middle school in Bhojpur district on Sunday morning. The reason for the attack is not known yet.
The incident occurred near an embankment situated between Bahoranpur and Damodarpur villages in the Bahoranpur police station area of Jagdishpur sub-division in the district.
Yogendra, son of one Shiv Ratan Shah of Damodarpur village, sustained a bullet injury between the right side of his neck and jaw.
According to the police, showing extraordinary willpower and determination, Yogendra, who was bleeding profusely, reached Bahoranpur police station, and recorded his statement before the police. The police then rushed him to the Sadar Hospital Ara, but seeing his serious condition, the doctors referred him to the Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH).
However, his family members got him admitted to a private hospital in Ara, where he is undergoing treatment. "The bullet has been removed from his body. However, he will be kept under observation for a few days since he lost blood after being shot at," said Dr Vikash Singh, under whom the injured teacher is undergoing treatment.
Jagdishpur SDPO, Rajiv Chandra Singh, said: "The incident occurred at about 11.15am on Sunday. Immediately after getting the information I, Bahoranpur SHO and other police personnel rushed to the spot. An FSL team and the Bhojpur district intelligence unit (DIU) team were also sent to the spot to gather scientific evidence. The police have recovered an empty cartridge and a pellet from the place of incident. The culprits will soon be arrested."
Yogendra said he could not recognise the criminals, as their faces were covered with masks. "I don't have enmity with anyone," he added.
