Gorakhpur: Two schoolchildren were run over by a speeding van near Bedupar Chauraha under Taryasujan police station limits on Monday. The driver is absconding.
The incident occurred when both the children came out of the school during recess.
Both the victims were identified as Ravish Kumar (8), son of Pappu Yadav, and Prince (12), son of Prahlad. Ravish from Gopalganj in Bihar, was staying with his uncle Guddu to pursue his studies while Prince was a local resident.
As soon as the news of the accident spread, hundreds of villagers gathered at the site and staged a protest, blocking the road. Taryasujan SHO Rajprakash Singh, along with a police force, arrived promptly to address the situation.
The agitated villagers demanded immediate identification and action against the vehicle involved. The SHO assured them of swift action and successfully defused the tension.
The police have taken the bodies in their custody and initiated legal proceedings. CO Tamkuhi, Amit Saxena, stated that efforts are underway to trace the vehicle and bring the perpetrator to justice.
