Mohali: In a joint operation with Mohali police, the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) of Punjab police arrested an associate of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and Goldy Brar with a pistol and live bullets from Mohali on Saturday. The accused, identified as Mahfooz alias Vishal Khan, was allegedly involved in firing shots at an IELTS centre in Derabassi last year. Police will produce the accused before the Mohali court and obtain his police remand for further interrogation.
AGTF officials said Mahfooz is a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi-Goldy Brar gang. Police claimed that the accused orchestrated the shooting at a Derabassi IELTS centre in September 2024 and was evading police since the incident.
Police said preliminary investigations indicate that Vishal was planning to execute criminal activities in the tricity area. The accused has previous criminal records and was operating under foreign terrorist Goldy Brar's instructions since 2023. Vishal allegedly acquired weapons from a notorious gangster of Haryana, Joginder alias Joga, who supplied arms and support to the assailants involved in the Sidhu Moosewala murder case. Vishal was also implicated in that investigation.
During his checking, police claimed to have recovered a pistol and five live cartridges from his possession during the arrest. Now, the police are grilling him to know the whereabouts of other gang members.
