Chennai/Pudukottai: VCK chief Thol Thirumavalavan on Saturday said the party sought a CBI probe into Vengaivayal case as the party lost trust in the state police. In Pudukottai, CPM leader K Balakrishnan said there were several unanswered questions in the chargesheet filed before the
Madras high court.
Addressing reporters in Chennai, Thirumavalavan expressed skepticism about CBI's trustworthiness.
"It is impossible to believe that CBI is investigating with 100% honesty. But we have no other option. The CB-CID probe was ordered after we brought it to the notice of the chief minister. We will again meet him on this," he said. The VCK leader said the party's legal wing intends to challenge the CB-CID's chargesheet against three individuals from the dalit community in the trial court. He alleged an anti-dalit bias among officials and expressed disappointment and shock at the police's handling of the Vengaivayal case.
Balakrishnan pointed to the state govt's previous requests for CBI's intervention in multiple instances. "There is no harm in the Tamil Nadu govt ordering a CBI investigation when there is doubt," he said.
While the police presence was justified given the sensitivity of the situation, denying the people of Vengaivayal their basic rights by keeping them inside the village for an extended period was not welcome, he added.
On the allegations that DMK allies were raising their voice against their principal ally, Balakrishnan said, "We are part of an alliance that opposes the BJP. We accept what aligns with our values and openly voice our opposition to what doesn't," he said.
