President’s Police Medal for NagpurCP Singal, CISF senior officer Sakhare
Nagpur: Commissioner of police, Nagpur, Ravinder Singal and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) senior commandant Tushar Sakhare will be conferred President's Police Medal for distinguished service by President Droupadi Murmu on Republic Day tomorrow. The medal, one of the highest honours in policing, recognises his contributions to law enforcement, public safety, and efforts in maintaining law and order.
Singal, an IPS officer of 1996 Maharashtra cadre, assumed charge as Nagpur CP in February 2024. He has implemented several key initiatives including anti-drug campaigns under ‘Operation Thunder', cyber awareness programmes, women's safety, traffic regulations, and adoption of technology-driven solutions like the AI-based SIMBA system. Singal is also a recipient of President's Medal for meritorious service during his stint in Nagpur as additional CP (crime) in 2014.
Sakhare, who hails from Nagpur, joined CISF in 2005 and served in different units. He is currently posted at Amritsar airport. Sakhare will be honoured for his meritorious services including a major crackdown against coal mafia and exemplary service during UN peacekeeping missions.
During his tenure with Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL) at Sitapur, he conducted more than 11,800 raids and recovered over 65,000 tonne coal valued at Rs 37 crore. As a head of the unit, Sakhare registered 3,384 complaints and arrested 416 miscreants. He twice represented CISF in peacekeeping missions and was also awarded two UN medals. He also received the Director General Commendation Disc in 2015, mentions a press release.
Singal told TOI that the award is a huge encouragement for his policing efforts. "I attribute this award to all those with whom I spent my career serving in Maharashtra police, whether my colleagues or those who contributed to my understanding of the role and responsibilities entrusted to me by the govt," said Singal, whose father was a senior Delhi Police official.
Singal has often said his father's official vehicle with the a beacon, uniform and the aura as a senior cop motivated him since childhood to join IPS.
In a career spanning 28 years, Singal had been posted at Amravati, Nashik (Rural), Dhule, Nanded, Nagpur railway, Mumbai railway, and Nashik City. He has also worked as a Special IG in Aurangabad.
As SP Nashik, Singal managed the Kumbh Mela in 2003, overseeing traffic, crowd control, security, and disaster management. He was awarded the DGP medal by Maharashtra director general of police. In 2007, as SP Nanded, he managed a six-day event attended by 1.5 million devotees, ensuring high-level security for visits by the President and Prime Minister of India.
Singal also served on deputation to United Nations mission in Kosovo, coordinating with intelligence agencies, crime investigation teams, NATO forces, and the US Army. Before joining IPS, he worked as an electrical engineer with GAIL.
Singal has received several awards, including the Meritorious Service Medal in 2013, the ‘Special Service Medal' in 2019, the Internal Security Service Medal in 2020, and PETA India Humanitarian Award in 2022.
Singal has also authored books including ‘Malegaonchi Yatra', ‘Policing in a New Dimension', and ‘Deccan Cliffhanger'. An extremely health-conscious officer, he has been an Ironman, Comrade Legend finisher, motivational speaker and an endurance athlete.
