Lucknow: It was a fun-filled day for students from various schools across the city who showcased their knowledge in the ‘Discover Uttar Pradesh Quiz Contest', organized by The Times of India, and won exciting prizes.
The event, organized at Avadh Shilpgram to mark National Tourism Day, was inaugurated by tourism minister Jaiveer Singh, in the presence of principal secretary (culture and tourism) Mukesh Meshram, and other dignitaries.
The team from Lucknow Public School, Jankipuram, secured first position, while Army Public School, Nehru Road, and SKD Academy, Vrindavan Yojana, bagged second and third spots.
A total of 81 teams, each consisting of three members, from 16 schools participated in the competition. Six teams – Army Public School, Nehru Road; Rajkiya Hussainabad Inter College; GGIC Gomtinagar; Lucknow Public School, Jankipuram; SKD Academy, Vrindavan Yojana; and GD Goenka Public School – were shortlisted for the final round.
Principal secretary Mukesh Kumar Meshram greeted the people on tourism day and discussed the significane of Maha Kumbh. He encouraged the younger generation to embrace tourism and explore religious triangle of Prayagraj-Ayodhya-Varanasi.
Speaking on Maha Kumbh, the principal secretary highlighted its spiritual and cultural significance, inviting visitors to experience its transformative power.
The quiz covered a wide range of topics, including the history of Uttar Pradesh, major events, tourist landmarks, biodiversity, and geographical features.
Participants also explored regional languages, literature, music, dance forms like Kathak and Nautanki, and the state's iconic cuisine and GI-tagged products. The quiz was conducted in English and Hindi. Quizmaster Kunal Savarkar hosted the event.
The winning team received Rs 50,000, the first runner-up got Rs 30,000, while the second runner-up received Rs 20,000.
Other events were also held at Avadh Shilpgram on National Tourism Day. The event culminated with cultural performances and contests. The tourism department awarded tourism enthusiasts, influencers, and industry stakeholders.
