TN Republic Day celebrations: Governor unfurls national flag, in the presence of Chief Minister

An impressive ceremonial march past marked the spirit of the Republic Day celebrations in the State capital, where the Governor took the salute.

On the occasion of the Republic Day, Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi unfurled the national flag in Chennai on Sunday (January 26), in the presence of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and other dignitaries. As the Governor and CM stood saluting, the national anthem was sung and an Air Force helicopter showered flower petals over the national flag near the Labour Statue along the Kamarajar promenade.

An impressive ceremonial march past marked the spirit of the Republic Day celebrations in the State capital, where the Governor took the salute. As per the protocol, the Chief Minister received the Governor when he arrived. As per the custom, the CM introduced senior officers from the Army, the Navy, the Air Force, the Coast Guard and the Tamil Nadu Police to the Governor.

Mr. Stalin handed over various awards to recipients. Leading Fireman K. Vetrivel, who rescued three people from drowning in Adyar in Chennai in November last year, received the Anna Medal for Gallantry, 2025. S.A. Ameer Amsa from Ramanathapuram district, who has assisted in the burial of bodies of over 1,000 bodies so far, received the Kottai Ameer Award, 2025.

R. Murugavel of Theni district received the Narayanasamy Naidu Paddy Productivity Award. Inspector P. Chinnakamanan, head constables K. Mahamarx and K. Karthick, Grade II police constables K. Siva and P. Poomalai received the Gandhi Adigal police medals.

Later, the Governor, the Chief Minister, and other dignitaries witnessed the cultural events performed by school children and youth. Air Force officer Wing Commander Sarthak Budhia was the parade commander for the Republic Day parade.
