Dy CM tells health dept to conduct cost audit of GBS treatment
Pune: Deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar on Saturday told the public health department to conduct a cost audit of Guillain Barre Syndrome treatment following complaints of exorbitant charges against some hospitals.
He said he received some complaints of high charges for treating Guillain Barre Syndrome (GBS) patients. Ajit Pawar said, "After receiving the complaint, I spoke to the senior officials and told them to carry out the cost audit of the treatment. It will give a clear picture if the GBS treatment is really expensive."
The deputy chief minister said, "The govt took financial responsibility to provide some relief to patients, particularly those from the economically weaker section, when some serious diseases had spread in the past. In this case also, if the cost of treatment is really high, the state govt will find out some solution."
Ajit Pawar, Pune's guardian minister, held a review meeting with health officials in the city on Saturday, as cases continued to be reported from Pune Municipal Corporation and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation limits. He told the officials to take help of medical experts in sending out precautionary advice to citizens.
As the chief minister is back in the state after his visit to Davos, Ajit Pawar said he would discuss the GBS issue with Devendra Fadnavis. "I am planning to hold a meeting with the public health department officials in Mantralaya on Monday to review the situation. I will also discuss the issue with the chief minister to decide the future course of action," Ajit Pawar said.
