Minister for Cooperation K.N. Rajanna said that the State government is prepared to take action against the microfinance institutions that are accused of harassing people after extending loan facilities.

Speaking to presspersons in Hassan on Sunday, Mr. Rajanna said that there were many complaints related to harassing people in the name of recovering loans from self-help groups.

“Chief Minister Siddaramaiah held a meeting with senior officers and representatives of microfinance institutions on Saturday. The government is contemplating a law to aid the people’s suffering,” he said.

Referring to loans extended through the Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP), the Minister said that there here had been no complaints of harassment against the organisation.

Replying to a question, Mr. Rajanna said if the former Minister and BJP leader B. Sreeramulu wished to join the Congress party accepting its ideology, he would welcome him.

“Sreeramulu is an influential leader of the Nayaka community. After he launched his party, a few MLAs from his party got elected. None of the community leaders in the party would oppose his entry,” Mr. Rajanna said.

The Minister was in Hassan to hoist the national flag on the occasion of the Republic Day.
