City Express by Marriott expands into Argentina, Bolivia, Nicaragua, and Peru, strengthening its midscale hospitality presence across Latin America and the Caribbean.

City Express by Marriott, a valued member of Marriott Bonvoy’s portfolio of over 30 distinguished brands, has revealed plans to expand into four new markets within the Caribbean and Latin America (CALA) region: Argentina, Bolivia, Nicaragua, and Peru. This move underscores Marriott International’s growing presence in the affordable midscale segment. In 2024 alone, Marriott signed agreements for 12 City Express by Marriott properties, totaling 1,236 rooms. The City Express by Marriott portfolio now boasts 153 hotels and 17,777 rooms across the CALA region.

Following Marriott’s acquisition of the City Express brand in 2023, which marked the company’s entrance into the affordable midscale market, the brand has experienced rapid growth and robust performance. In addition to its strong presence in Mexico, City Express has expanded into secondary and tertiary destinations across the country and beyond. The forthcoming developments in Argentina, Bolivia, Nicaragua, and Peru complement existing properties in Mexico, Chile, Colombia, and Costa Rica. This announcement aligns with Marriott’s recent plans to introduce the City Express brand to Brazil and expand its reach into the United States and Canada as a midscale transient offering.

Argentina

• City Express by Marriott Añelo Neuquén: Positioned in Patagonia’s Neuquén Province, this 100-room hotel is slated to open in 2027, supporting Vaca Muerta, a burgeoning oil and gas hub.

Bolivia

• City Express by Marriott Santa Cruz de la Sierra: Construction is set to commence in early 2025 for this 100-room hotel located in Santa Cruz, Bolivia’s largest city and economic powerhouse. The property is anticipated to open by early 2027.

Nicaragua

• City Express by Marriott Managua: Expected to convert in Q3 2025, this 100-room property will be part of a mixed-use development connected to Las Americas shopping mall and the HEX Convention Center.
• City Express by Marriott Estelí: Scheduled for conversion in the same timeframe, this 49-room hotel will serve business travelers within the Multicentro Estelí shopping mall.
• City Centro by Marriott La Recolección: Situated in downtown León, this 50-room property near major attractions and business hubs is set to convert in Q3 2025. This marks a significant milestone as the brand’s first entries into Nicaragua.

Peru

• City Express Plus by Marriott and City Express Suites by Marriott, Casma: These dual-brand properties in Casma, Ancash, Peru, will open in 2027 as part of an ambitious tourism and lifestyle project dubbed the “Peruvian Miami Beach.” City Express Plus by Marriott will offer 120 rooms, while City Express Suites by Marriott will feature 80 rooms. Casma, known as the “Land of the Eternal Sun,” offers a blend of coastal beauty, rich history, and archaeological intrigue, making it an exciting destination for leisure travelers.
