Efforts will be made to relax rules for Yakshagana: MLA
Udupi: In light of the legal concerns facing night-time Yakshagana performances, there should be a single-window system in place to grant permission for Yakshagana performances to all troupes, said Karkala MLA V Sunil Kumar. He stated that efforts will be made to draft regulations in this regard. He spoke while presenting the Sri Kundeshwara Samman award to Yakshagana comedian Arun Kumar Jarkala at the Hirgana Shrikundeshwara Kshetra.
"Yakshagana is our culture. Efforts will be made at the govt level to relax rules that hinder our identity and to grant permission for Yakshagana performances without any obstacles," said Kumar. Famous Yakshagana artiste and advocate Shriramanachar mentioned that performing Yakshagana after 10pm has become a legal issue. He appealed for simplifying the process of obtaining multiple permissions for Yakshagana performances that were staged for generations.
Arun Kumar Jarkala, upon receiving the award, stated that only those who experienced great pain can make others laugh, and they can bring joy through humour.
