Bollywood is a vast industry with numerous actors striving to perform and capture the audience’s attention. Some actors come from film families, with members already established in the industry, and then there are those with no film background who manage to turn the tables with their exceptional acting skills. Whether they have massive screen time or limited roles, these actors know how to leave a lasting impact on viewers’ minds and hearts. One such actor who has emerged as one of the most versatile in the industry is Dibyendu Bhattacharya. His name has become synonymous with authentic and compelling performances, making him a true gem in the Indian entertainment industry.
Over the years, Dibyendu has carved a niche for himself with his powerful portrayals of complex characters, proving that screen time matters far less than the impression an actor leaves on the audience. However, his journey has been far from smooth. He faced numerous ups and downs, with periods of struggle for work. Acceptance and rejection are integral to an actor’s career. Reflecting on this, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, in an exclusive interview with India.com, opened up about the struggles he faced during the early days of his career.
When asked whether he experienced rejection during his initial days while seeking work, the actor shared an anecdote and said, “Rejection and all, yeh toh part and parcel of life hai. Ek baar ki baat hai, jab mai Mumbai aaya toh kisi production house mei milne gaya tha. Maine samne wale ko bola ki keh dijiye ki student aaye hain NSD se, toh woh mere samne bole ki NFDC se koi aaya hai. Toh jin logon ko NSD nahi maloom, mai aise logon ke samne jaake struggle kar raha hu. Jabki mai 1988 se theatre kiya, NSD se pass out hua, NSD repertory company mei kaam kiya, Monsoon Wedding kar chuka tha, lekin jab mai Mumbai mei ek newcomer director se milta tha, toh woh puchte the ki aapne kya kya kiya.”

Later, Dibyendu shared another incident where he went to a TV director seeking work. However, the director’s reaction to Bhattacharya’s audition was completely indifferent. The actor said, “Ek baar I went to a television director ke paas. He was taking my audition during lunchtime. Woh audition kya lega, uske samne 15 khaane ke dibbe khule hue the. Woh har dibbe mei se khana kha raha tha aur mere dialogues sun raha tha. Aur mujhe bhook lagi hui thi, maine kuch khaya nahi tha, aur maine dekha ki woh director mere samne kha raha hai aur na hi woh mere dialogues ko sahi se sun raha tha. Woh itna annoying ho gaya ki mai wahi script patak ke nikal gaya.”
He added, “Toh woh director itna gussa ho gaya ki mujhe bola ki tum jaise actors ko kabhi koi director haath nahi lagayega.” Dibyendu then joked about the incident and said, “Maine unko fir bola ki aap bilkul haath nahi lagana, aapka haath jootha hai.”
On the professional front, Dibyendu Bhattacharya has been garnering appreciation for his role in Griha Laxmi, where he worked closely with Hina Khan. He was also seen in Sonu Sood’s Fateh. The actor is expected to feature in Anushka Sharma’s Chakda ‘Xpress, adding another remarkable project to his repertoire.
