A 22-year-old man was arrested on Saturday after he allegedly beat a three-year-old child to death. Tamilarasan (22), a resident of Kitchipalayam, was in a relationship with Shanmuga Priya (25), a resident of Gugai and moved in with her and her two sons, aged six and three. Meanwhile, on Thursday, Tamilarasan, in an inebriated state, allegedly hit the child against the wall, causing grievous injuries. The couple took him to Salem Government Hospital, claiming that the child fell from a two-wheeler. On Friday night, the child succumbed to his injuries. Annathanapatti police arrested Tamilarasan and remanded him to prison, and are on the lookout for Shanmuga Priya, who is absconding.
