Kendrapada: Jajpur police on Saturday arrested 50-year-old Laxmikanta Jena of Madhapur village under Binjharpur police limits for allegedly killing his father, Pandab Charana Jena (82), a retired police officer. The incident took place on Jan 12 following a heated argument over a family dispute.
According to police sources, Laxmikanta, a jawan of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), attacked his father with an axe after the latter allegedly abused him.
The victim sustained critical injuries and was rushed to community health centre (CHC) in Binjharpur. Later, he was transferred to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar, where he died on Saturday.
Police seized a blood-stained axe from the spot. "The exact cause of the hostility between them is being investigated," said IIC, Binjharpur police station, Bamadev Nanda. The accused was produced in a local court on Saturday, which rejected his bail plea.
