World Economic Forum 2025 Day 5 highlights: Taural India signs MoU with Maharashtra Government at Davos

Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, A.P. Telangana on Thursday procured MoU’s and investment proposals to contribute to infrastructure development and job creation in their states

On the fifth and final day of the World Economic Forum (WEF), Telangana CM Revanth Reddy returned to India after visiting Singapore and then attending the WEF. Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu is expected to return to India later today.

On Thursday (January 23, 2025), U.S. President Donald Trump appeared via video conferencing at the World Economic Forum and asked global leaders and elites to bring their manufacturing to America, promising low tax cuts. He also threatened to impose tariffs if any nation refused to do so.

Most of the investments Maharashtra signed through Memoranda of Understandings (MoUs) worth ₹15.70 lakh crore in Davos were in the field of sustainability and energy, Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis said on Thursday (January 23, 2025). The Tamil Nadu delegation indicated that several investment proposals are under consideration following numerous discussions.

Andhra Pradesh CM N. Chandrababu Naidu met the heads of nearly 15 top global companies from various sectors and even met with Microsoft CEO Bill Gates. The TelanganaRising delegation led by CM A. Revanth Reddy attracted huge investments of ₹1.78 lakh crore, creating employment opportunities for 49,550 people. The biggest investments including Amazon (AWS) - ₹60,000 crore, Sun Petrochemicals - ₹45,500 crore, among others, according to a release from the CM’s office.

    Leaders emphasise support for WTO, rule-based international trading

    The World Trade Organisation pitched for strengthening the rule-based multilateral trading system in view of increasing geopolitical tensions, economic fragmentation and threats of unilateral measures.

    As many as 23 members of the WTO took part in the informal ministerial meeting organised by Switzerland here on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting.

    Switzerland Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin hosted the meeting, which was attended by WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and selected representatives of the private sector.

    Patole seeks White Paper on Davos deals; slams Fadnavis govt for agreements with liquor firms

    Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole said the Devendra Fadnavis government must release a White Paper on the investments received and jobs generated from MoUs signed during previous visits to the World Economic Forum in Davos.

    Addressing a press conference, Patole said Fadnavis has informed that 61 MoUs were signed entailing investments of ₹15.70 lakh crore and having the potential to create 15.95 lakh jobs.

    “While significant investments in Maharashtra are welcome, the public has the right to know the specifics of these agreements and the reality behind them. Similar grand announcements have been made in the past as well. The Mahayuti government must release a White Paper on investments and job creation from previous deals at Davos,” Mr. Patole said.

    Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil, on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF), highlighted the success of government initiatives in the area of water and irrigation which will give confidence to global investors to see the sector as an opportunity.

    Speaking to ANI, the Union Minister pointed out that the country in the past 10 years has made significant progress and several projects are coming to eradicate the problem of water in the country.

    He said, “There is a chance to make a big investment in India for water” emphasising that the investors will find India as an attractive destination.

    South African Indian-origin filmmaker Anant Singh appointed to WEF’s Global Arts and Culture Council

    The Global Arts and Culture Council (GACC), which was inaugurated on Wednesday (January 24, 2025) in Davos, received the apointment of Indian-origin South African filmmaker Anant Singh. 

    Known for using his films to speak out against apartheid, HIV/AIDS, and gender-based violence, Singh’s movies have earned him multiple international accolades. One such film is ‘Long Walk to Freedom,’ a biopic of Nelson Mandela.

    He was conferred WEF’s Crystal Award in 2001.

    Telangana CM Revanth Reddy returns after Singapore, Davos tour

    After concluding his two-nation foreign tour, Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy reached here on Friday (January 24, 2025). Several Congress leaders and cadres accorded the CM a grand welcome at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport here.

    The Revanth Reddy-led ‘TelanganaRising’ delegation signed as many as 20 MoUs for investments worth nearly ₹1.79 lakh crore, the majority of them for setting up data centres, followed by pumped storage facilities in the state.

    Andhra CM concludes WEF meet, to return to state on Jan 24

    Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is scheduled to return to New Delhi on January 24 at 12.30 a.m., following a four-day visit to the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland. He is scheduled to return to his residence at Undavalli in Guntur district in Andhra Pradesh at 2 p.m., an official release said on Thursday (January 24, 2025).

    Besides meeting a range of high-flying global executives from a plethora of industries, he also met with Microsoft founder Bill Gates.

    Taural India signs MoU with Maharashtra Government at Davos

    Taural India, a leading world-class integrated aluminium foundry, and the Government of Maharashtra have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to expand the company’s advanced manufacturing facility in Supa, Ahilya Nagar, Maharashtra. 

    According to Taural India, the signing, held at the Maharashtra Pavilion during the World Economic Forum in Davos, was presided over by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and other senior government officials. 

    This agreement underscores a bold step toward driving industrial growth and strengthening self-reliance in Tier II regions of Maharashtra.
