The Tamil Nadu Government Multi Super Speciality Hospital (TNGMSSH), Omandurar Estate, has acquired a new MRI scan machine at a cost of ₹6.60 crore.

Health Minister Ma. Subramanian, who inaugurated the machine on Friday, said the new equipment has additional features compared to the MRI scanner installed at the hospital 11 years ago.

The scanner was procured through the Tamil Nadu Medical Service Corporation.

Use of Artificial Intelligence to scan some parts such as the brain would reduce the time of study and patient waiting time considerably.

With advanced softwares, patients of neurology, neurosurgery, cardiac care, oncology and vascular surgery will benefit.

Settings in the equipment can be changed for safer imaging of infants and children. Better quality images can be acquired, even with metallic implants, with artefact reduction sequences, according to doctors.

The Minister said that as per an announcement in the budget, TNGMSSH would get equipment worth ₹57.55 crore soon.

The hospital received 1,800 to 2,000 outpatients a day and accounted for 450 to 500 in-patients. Around 25 major surgeries were performed a day, he said.

Director of Medical Education J. Sangumani and director of TNGMSSH R. Mani were present.
