A 31-year-old man from Mayiladuthurai has been sentenced to eight years of imprisonment in a POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) case.

The convict, Karthik, 31, a resident of Kanjanagaram village under the Sembanarkoil police limits, was accused of sexually harassing a 15-year-old girl in 2022. Following a complaint lodged by the girl’s parents at the All Women Police Station in Mayiladuthurai, police registered a POCSO case and arrested Karthik.

During the trial at the Mayiladuthurai District Sessions Court on Friday, District and Sessions Judge R. Vijayakumari sentenced Karthik to eight years of imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹2,000. Failure to pay the fine will result in an additional three months of imprisonment, the court said.
