MLA for Krishnaraja T.S. Srivatsa on Friday said he has sought a government engineering college and a women’s polytechnic college in Mysuru as Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is preparing to present his budget next month.

“During the Mysuru development meeting convened by the Chief Minister recently in Bengaluru, I have urged Mr. Siddaramaiah to announce a government engineering college and a women’s polytechnic college for Mysuru. The facilities will benefit the students,” he told reporters in Mysuru.

While seeking a package of grants for the development of Mysuru in the budget, the MLA said over 2,000 students pursue engineering and polytechnic courses in Mysuru in private facilities. The 10-acre land set aside for an ITI College in Mysuru could be used for establishing the government engineering college and the government polytechnic college for women, he said.

He also said there are reports of getting the Cabinet approval for the white topping of the roads in all four constituencies of Mysuru city. A decision on this will be taken in the next Cabinet meeting at M.M. Hills.

While claiming that the State government is going bankrupt with no money for the development works because of the guarantee schemes, he said the sources of revenue are shrinking and the government was now availing loans for the development of constituencies.

“When more than 700 beneficiaries seek aid in a corporation, the government tells to reduce the grant to just four to five people,” he said.

Referring to the recent robberies and crimes against women, the MLA said the incidents have disturbed people’s sleep. The Police Department is in slumber with the officers having no fear of the government, he charged.

The spate of robberies in the State and crimes against women raise questions on whether the Police Department exists in the state, he said.

Former MLA Nagendra, BJP State Spokesperson M.G. Mahesh, City BJP spokesperson M.A. Mohan, and others were present.
