Varanasi: Union minister of state for Railways and Jal Shakti, V Somanna, appreciated the innovations of the Banaras Locomotive Works, its locomotive production capabilities, and significant global contributions in realising the vision of
Aatmanirbhar Bharat, during his visit at BLW on Friday.
Somanna was welcomed by BLW general manager Naresh Pal Singh. During the workshop tour, the minister inspected the New Loco Frame Shop, Loco Assembly Shop, Traction Assembly Shop, Truck Machine Shop, and Loco Test Shop. He examined the electric locomotive and experienced its technical features by sitting in the driver's cab. After the workshop visit, he planted a sapling in the administrative building premises.
Later, in a meeting held in the administrative building, principal chief electrical engineer Sushil Kumar Srivastava gave a presentation highlighting BLW's historic achievements, technical expertise, and future plans.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that BLW's production system is a remarkable example of modern technology and high quality. BLW stands as a key pillar of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat mission. He appreciated the BLW's successful export of locomotives to 11 countries, including Mozambique, Sudan, and Malaysia, describing it as a significant step towards the ‘Make in India - Make for the World' initiative.
