Munde says hang guilty in Massajog sarpanch murder case
Pune: Cabinet minister Dhananjay Munde, facing scrutiny after his close associate Valmik Karad was arrested in the Massajog village sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh murder case, said that all culprits responsible for the crime should be hanged.
Munde was in his home district Beed where he interacted with reporters on Wednesday.
The opposition and some Mahayuti members' have been demanding Munde's resignation, claiming that his ministerial position may influence the investigation.
Responding to a question about people arrested in the murder case receiving preferential treatment in prison, Munde said, "I will not react to those who say anything about the issue. CID and SIT are investigating the case in addition to a judicial inquiry. The police are doing a fine job."
He said the case should be tried in a fast-track court and those responsible for the brutal murder of Deshmukh should be hanged at the earliest.
The opposition has targeted the state govt over alleged corruption in the one rupee crop insurance scheme where agriculture minister Manikrao Kokate admitted that 4.14 lakh bogus insurance claims were submitted in 2024.
Munde, who was the agriculture minister during that time, said that he felt the scheme should be replaced with a better one.
"I was the agriculture minister for two years, and during that time, govt disbursed Rs 11,000 crore under the crop insurance scheme. However, I realised that insurance companies were creating hurdles for farmers in getting the insurance money. Therefore, I wrote to the then agriculture commissioner, asking him to explore options for the crop insurance scheme," Munde said.
