In a remarkable display of talent and skill, 10th-grade student Ankit Chatterjee made his debut for Bengal in the prestigious Ranji Trophy at the tender age of 15. This achievement not only marked a significant milestone in his young career but also saw him surpass the record set by the legendary cricketer Sourav Ganguly, who made his first-class debut at the age of 17 during the 1989-90 Ranji Trophy final against Delhi.

It is worth noting that in that particular match, Ganguly replaced his brother and current Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president Snehasish Ganguly in the playing XI.

Ankit, a student at Bangaon High School in the North 24 Parganas district, has been honing his cricketing skills by playing age-group cricket for Shyambazar Club, which is located over 75 kilometers away from his school. His exceptional performance in age-group cricket paved the way for his selection in the Bengal team for the match against Haryana.

During the match, Suraj Sindhu Jaiswal delivered a stellar performance with the ball, claiming six wickets at the Bengal Cricket Academy Ground in Kalyani. Despite a promising start by captain Ankit Kumar, who forged an opening partnership of 81 runs with Lakshhya Dalal, Haryana struggled to build momentum after his departure. Suraj's impeccable bowling, supported by Mukesh Kumar and Mohammed Kaif, led to Haryana being dismissed for 157 runs in the first innings.

As a debutant, Ankit took on the responsibility of opening the innings alongside Writthick Chatterjee in the absence of Abhimanyu Easwaran. With the opportunity to solidify his place in the playing XI, Ankit has the chance to showcase his batting prowess and make a lasting impact on the team.
